The only building in the village of Shevchenkove, which has been preserved in its original form from the Taras times, is the house of the deacon Ruban, where little Taras Shevchenko studied literacy for two years.

The schoolhouse was located in the then center of the village of Kerelivka, next to the church, 400 meters west of the Shevchenko family estate. It was divided by a porch into two halves - residential and educational. All the children studied together at a large long table in two groups.

Now the Dyak's House is one of the objects of the National Reserve "Taras Shevchenko's Homeland", visits must be arranged at the Taras Shevchenko Literary and Memorial Museum.

Єдиною будівлею на території села Шевченкове, що збереглася в оригіналі з тарасових часів, є хата дяка Рубана, в якого малий Тарас Шевченко два роки навчався грамоти. 

Хата-школа розташовувалася у тогочасному центрі села Керелівка, поруч із церквою, за 400 метрів на захід від садиби родини Шевченків. Вона була поділена сіньми на дві половини – житлову і навчальну. Всі діти вчилися разом за великим довгим столом двома групами.

1909 року Керелівська школа частково згоріла, проте залишилась та частина будинку, де вчились учні. До 1956 року вона залишалася житловою. В 1961 році над нею звели скляний павільйон для захисту від негоди. У 1998 році було виконано ряд реставраційно-відновлювальних робіт.
